Sherry and Wes’ Mountain Elopement Adventure

It all started on a mountain…

Wes proposed to Sherry on Mt. Rainier, so it is only fitting that they wanted to get married amongst the mountains as well! S + W met four years prior at a restaurant, where Sherry made the first move, and it has been history since. The ring that Wes proposed to Sherry with was purchased literally hours after they both saw it! While shopping, Sherry expressed interest in a ring so, Wes ran back to this shop- by himself of course and bought the ring! And he proposed to her on that same day! Originally, S + W had made arrangements to elope to Denmark in 2020 but had to reschedule because of the pandemic. So Sherry and Wes decided to change plans and head to Colorado to elope in the beautiful mountains because of the stunning views and their love for hiking!

The night before their mountain elopement, we met at a brewery in Buena Vista. I had the pleasure of getting to know them even more, listening to their story of how they met, their proposal, and why they decided to elope. We also discussed the plan for the following day and firm up any last-minute details. I’m pretty sure we ended up being the last ones there. We easily lost track of time while talking, the hours flew by and all of a sudden the bar was closing! And of course the weather that day was absolutely perfect.

Rain, rain, go away…

Fast forward to the next day and I arrived early to the location and the whole drive up it is pouring rain!! I was literally pleading and screaming to the sky from the inside of my car for the rain to stop before 3 PM. My screams must’ve gotten through because in true Colorado fashion, the rain stopped right before we began hiking.

First Look & Mountain Wedding Ceremony

After we hiked our way up to the ceremony destination, I set up the changing tent for S + W to change into their wedding attire. As Wes finished up, it started to drizzle and he held an umbrella to await for his soon-to-be bride! Pro- tip, it’s always smart to bring an umbrella, as Colorado weather is always unpredictable. Sherry and Wes’ ceremony was so sweet to witness and capture. When Wes read his vows, he held up the card where he had written them, which was a picture of two peas in a pod. He was cracking up while explaining how the picture related to their relationship.

A wedding gift from Mother Nature

After the ceremony, it began to rain again and we jumped back in the changing tent. Then, all of a sudden, a big rainbow appeared from the clouds. Don’t you love it when the weather does its thing? Sherry and Wes gladly stepped out of the tent to pose in front of this beautiful rainbow. Then, S + W popped champagne and drank from their mugs, while they soaked up the beautiful views surrounding them. I loved this elopement session so much because Sherry and Wes are the type of people who are infectious to be around. Everything about S + W was such a joy and I am so grateful they chose me to capture their special day! Even though the weather wasn’t what we expected, Sherry and Wes made the most out of their mountain elopement because they were marrying the love of their lives in a space that captured nature’s wonders and beauty.

Suggestions for couples who want to elope in the mountains!

After a couple’s elopement session, I ask my clients to share some advice for future clients who are interested in eloping to Colorado. Here are S + W’s response. “Although there typically aren’t nearly as many moving parts with an elopement, we still recommend planning well in advance so that you can fully embrace the process and minimize stress. For ladies wanting to get hair and makeup done in Colorado: definitely book someone well in advance because there were limited options outside of Denver. If eloping in nature, we also recommend finding a location that’s less popular. It made all the difference having absolutely nobody else on the trail or within sight of our location that day!“
