Winter elopements are some of my favorite sessions because it always feels like a Winter Wonderland! I might be partial but winter in Colorado is something special. 😉 I love how the snow covers the trees and mountaintops- it’s a truly beautiful and peaceful scene to be a part of.
When Alexandra and Nate contacted me about their interest in eloping to Colorado during the winter, I was SO excited! A + N are from the East coast and I knew they were familiar with the snow and mountains, but I was excited to show them what Colorado had to offer!
Alexandra and Nate wanted all of the mountainous views, in addition to a location with easy access. After discussing more their needs and vision of their winter elopement, I knew exactly where to take them! Loveland Pass is a perfect location, especially for winter elopements. Why? Loveland Pass has trees, lakes, and those BEAUTIFUL mountain views, of course. The best part about this location is that it’s just steps from the parking lot!
Now, traveling up to this location can be difficult, but especially during the winter. A+ N wanted a sunrise session, so we left the house bright and early at 4:30 AM to ensure we had plenty of time to make it up the mountain and have time to change. On our drive up, it started to snow and then snow some more! Fortunately, driving up in the snow was not a problem. Always make sure to have chains in your car for weather like this- Colorado weather can be unpredictable!
In addition to the weather being unpredictable, travel to the ceremony site can also be unpredictable. On our way up, we happened to catch up to a very slow moving FedEx truck who was also trying to make its way up the mountain as well. This is why I always account for some extra wiggle room when working with couples to plan out their timeline. Nobody wants to be rushed or feel like we’re missing anything. Remember, this is your special day! You left all the stress and drama behind when you decided to follow your dreams and elope instead. 🙂
The best part of this session? There was no one in sight. We had the whole place to ourselves, which is always an added bonus!
Once we arrived at our location, A+N changed, bundled up, and headed out to capture their special day. During this time, it was snowing SO much, making this session a cold yet beautiful snowstorm. During the planning process of eloping, I always inform my couples, especially those who have winter elopements, to pack multiple layers, hand/foot warmers and anything else that will keep you both warm!
Alexandra and Nate embraced the weather that we were given and took many breaks to warm up of course. You can’t even tell they were cold!
A + N recited their vows to each other on top of a rock, where epic views surrounded them. The ceremony was short and sweet, which is exactly what they wanted when they chose to elope. That’s one of the many benefits to eloping, whether it’s a winter elopement or not… you and your person can choose to have any type of ceremony you want and it still is an intimate experience for both of you because it’s your special day!
After the ceremony, we took full advantage of the snow and captured some portraits. With a perfectly executed champagne pop, Alexandra and Nate cuddle under their blanket and enjoyed their charcuterie board in this winter wonderland.
I had so much fun capturing Alexandra and Nate’s special day and I cannot wait to see where their next adventure is… CONGRATULATIONS!
